That's what's available in Ubuntu 9.10 ('apt-get install mc' tells me that I've got the latest version.) I've downloaded and compiled the latest stable, and you're right - it's gone. The standard version in Ubuntu should be handled, though. Thanks for your help! -- Incorrect expansion of '~' on
