I think this is fixed in the current upstream version (1.7.1.). After
downloading and installing from http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/ (and deleting
the old config file), I get evince as an entry for dvi, pdf and ps.
Setting status to fix commited.

Same than Joseph Smidt. Guess that evince is the standard ps, pdf viewer since
Dapper.
I also used the -v option for Makeindex and metapost.
