Same here with gutsy, but not only for deletion - I use the package list
with the keyboard to scroll and find packages to install, upgrade or
delete, but any action (I use space to mark for install) throws the
keyboard focus to the toolbar and then I have to tab back to the package
list, through al

Same by me. This annoying loss of focus also happens if you mark to
install some package, that is dependend on some other packages. A window
appears to confirm the installation of these extra packages. After you
click "OK" the list of the packages loses focus.
