got the same problem and fixed it as descriped here... could it be due to some proprietary drivers being used? I use the realtek sounddriver and before alsa and et-sound where started AFTER gdm, though you hear a sound "in" gdm... -- Cannot run gdmsetup https://launchpad.net/bugs/66034 -- ubu
