Same problem but with 11.04. Installed with the options to install
codecs and download packages as well.

Running the same installation from the Live CD (allowing the Live
instance to come up and then clicking on the "Install Ubuntu 10.10" icon
works successfully IF NEITHER UPDATE OPTION IS SELECTED.
If BOTH UPDATE OPTIONS ARE SELECTED, the installer complains about the
bootloader not being able to be
