the latest version in Natty (unity 3.2.2). With Alpha 1 releasing this
week, we would appreciate it if you could try the latest Unity out and
see if it still has this issue (or any other rendering/crashing issue

I am getting similar behaviour, and a similar message in syslog:
Running 10.10, up to date, on older Toshiba with graphics chipset ATI
Radeon Mobility 9100 IGP (U3) 5835.
When I move my mouse over to the launcher to start up an application, as
the cursor moves onto an icon, the launcher "disapear

Maybe not the systray issue, but so what GL should I/we have?
I 've downgraded xserver to support NVIDIA drivers and installed propertiary
drivers for my graphic card and nothing has changed...

I don't think that's linked with the systray issue. It's related to the
GL effects used to highlight launcher icons that require good GL
drivers. Unfortunately, certain operations fail even though the
API/extension is advertised by the driver.
