I did find this in the log... I'm going to try to change the login
theme and see if that helps.

Same problem. Seems to occur more when firefox is open in first session.
I'm latest ubuntu 7.10 update.
I have intel Quad - 32 bit kernel
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
I don't see anything in the logs with errors.
Those who still see this with 7.10 could attach the same logs as the
original reporter did. I'm not sure if this is a xorg issue at all.

I also had this problem (almost, since the gdm crash wasn't related to user
switch, it just happened at every login attempt).
The only thing that really worked for me was reinstalling gdm:
sudo apt-get purge gdm
sudo rm -rf /etc/gdm/
sudo apt-get install gdm
In addition to this, I've installed f

nVidia has stated that multiple X servers per GPU is NOT supported.
