I believe the fix made it into maverick. I'm thus closing the ticket.
I don't think anyone will backport this to one of the older releases.
You can always use the maverick version to do the import, publish the
repo and then use normally even from older gbp packages.

I'd greatly appreciate if this was fixed in 9.10 -- I'm backporting some
packages from Maverick and at the moment git-import-dsc fails to import
.dsc for them. Case in point, daemon 0.6.4-1:

I tried to import with git-import-dsc on ubuntu 10.10 beta and 10.04.
These version can import my .dsc file correctly but the bug is present
with an ubuntu 9.10.

Imports just fine with a version 0.5.4 of git-buildpackage that I
backported to lucid. Not sure if the package in lucid itself is still
affected. Can you test that? Live CD are great for that kind of thing
if you don't want to move to lucid, yet. Maverick has version 0.5.8 so
