There seems to be even more serious problem now. Almost all applications
are either crashing or when any application is closed, it restarts
mutter. This behaviour was there earlier, but then disappeared in the
previous update. It has surfaced again.

build GNOME Shell and all its dependencies (including dconf) from
source.
