Can't fix this for maverick unfortunately. But newer releases should
work somewhat better (still within the limitations of crappy drivers
etc.)

To by pass this in Kubuntu, edit your kwinrc file
change CheckOpenGLIsSafe and disable Blur effects in systemsettings..

Okay... Johnathan Riddel told me that ibus has nothing to do with this...
So I tried to do as mentioned before a second time!! Guess what, it did not
work again. :-(
Thats wierd that it worked at first ..

I think i found out why we are not getting the effects! ( well kind
of, I am close!! :-) )
I did a "kwin --replace" in the terminal and got this output:
