in attempting to add a new launch icon to the xfce4 panel, the panel
crashed.
specifically, i added the appropriate icon file to the item, then
attempted to browse to link to the launch file in /usr/bin. it crashed
while browsing to this folder.

Same thing happened to me. Was changing icon themes when it crashed. All
panels disappeared and had to do Ctrl+ Alt + Backspace to get out and
restart session. Xfce wont load again.

When I change icons in a theme , Icons and panel disappear on the
desktop.
After 2 reinstall, the problem persist.
