Found a workaround:
The problem is not with R. It is with font path settings for X. The
FontPath in /etc/X11/xorg.cong is not pointing to the correct
directories. I changed the lines (following a lead from here:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=268024):
# FontPath"/usr/s
Also here, with same R-Version as above
Trying to execute demo(), plot(x,y) tends to result in an error message:
Error in X11() : kann keine X11 Schriften finden; Bitte Fontpath überprüfen
Error in X11(): could not find any X11 fonts; Check that the Font Path
is correct
Same procedure with R --gu
