Even more convinced it is network-manager now - I stopped the service,
and ran wpa_supplicant directly, and lo' and behold, I got stable
wireless.

I seem to have the same issue on Maverick, albeit more extreme at times.
When I log on to the computer, the wireless connects and disconnects
several times per minute. After a while, the connection starts to stick
for longer periods, but it always disconnects no later than during the
night.

initial connection that got dropped. If that's all you have in your
syslog file, could you also attach syslog.1 or whatever file came
before, just to we have the full process from the first successful auth,
through the dropped connec

Can you make sure IPv6 adressing is set to Ignore in the IPv6 tab for
your wireless connection if you don't need IPv6, and then post
/var/log/syslog again?
