This option is only working if you choose tab view and not tree view.
With tab view it is working fine.

Tabs? Arn't you using the Tree mode?
Maybe there should be a warning dialog box, but you can't have the tree
on the top/bottom.

Small note...
Xchat Version 2.6.6 -ubuntu3 @ Xchat
Actual version in Dapper: 2.6.6 works flawless.
So i guess maybe GTK fault ? (Xchat is based on GTK)
