There is a catch-22 here:
The config file simply gets the largest value from the debconf database,
but know nothing about the available themes,
The themes don't know the available resolution.
For edgy+1 we may be able to change the configfile to include all
supported resolutions, so usplash can
It is good the way it is. For me, mine was 640x480, which was ugly as
well on a 21" monitor.
Actually maybe you could change the description if you feel like it to
something like
[Edgy] /etc/usplash.conf provides wrong resolution
something like that ;)

[Edgy] Usplash doesn't fill the whole
Great! My /etc/usplash.conf contains:
# Usplash configuration file
xres=1280
yres=1024
I changed it to 1024x768 as you said, then sudo update-initramfs -u, and
now looks great :)
So it seems that the bug is about:
a) bad generated configuration file (1280x1024 instead of 1024x768), or
b) usplas
cat /etc/usplash.conf
ideal is
xres=1024
yres=768
if you change it, make sure you run
sudo update-initramfs -u
afterwards. once you have done this, do you still have a problem?
