Ubuntu better. Sorry it went unanswered for so long time.
Can you please try Gutsy Beta and see if the issue is still there? If so,
please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Please also try without any xorg.conf.

As suggested there, in addition to he options I already added, I put these also
into my xorg.conf
Option "DRI" "true"
Option "ColorTiling" "on"
Option "EnablePageFlip" "true"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
So my d
My glxgears are also arround 1900 fps (in the small window) and about
140 fps when I maximazi the window.
How can I check that direct rendering is acutally enabled?
