This is fixed in gutsy (8.3.1-3ubuntu1). The English-gb has the british
flag and if you restart after selecting it then it seems to pick up the
translations (color->colour)

The flag mismatch was fixed the 2004-04-27, before release 6.0. I don't know on
which release you tested.
I am adding EN_us locale with the US flag to the list in the
configuration. It will be in upcomming GCompris 8.3.

I think the translation isn't being used - many languages are listed in
the options but there is no English-US option listed (which seems very
unlikely, especially as there is a Canadian English option).
In addition the text of the English-GB version is in US English, and
English-GB is identified
I have checked the en_GB translation in Rosetta for gcompris and all
occurrences of "color" have been translated correctly (to "colour"). So I
guess the translation hasn't been released yet (the last edited date is
2006-07-23). The link to the translation is:
