Workaround: in CCSM, Window Decorations, change 'Shadow windows' from 'any' to 'any & !state=maxvert'. This will exclude maximized windows from being decorated with a shadow. Maybe this could be set by default? This is also useful for some panels/taskbars which would could otherwise have a shad
