any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an

Powering off, and removing the battery for a minute worked for me as well (My
wired network is back and no more CPU spikes due to event/0)

I believe I found a solution to this problem:
You must fully power OFF your computer to clear this error state.
Reboot/restart and sleep are NOT sufficient.
I was able to get my Ethernet port working normally again by shutting
down, unplugging AC adapter, and removing battery for a minute. When I
I've had very similar problems with my lenovo x61 Tablet running 10.04.
I've tried with 2.6.32.-21, 22, 23, and 25, and same event/0 or event/1
CPU spiking (and networks LEDs on the whole time since the "Starting Up"
message, right after choosing the kernel we want to use in grub.

I have the same issue on a Lenovo T61p. I am running a fully updated
10.04 which has kernel 2.6.32-25-generic. I also tried rebooting with
the older 2.6.32-23-generic kernel as Karl suggested, but that did not
solve the issue for me.
Issue:
CPU usage by events/1 spiking rhythmically every ~4 secon
btw I am using a 2.6.32-24-generic kernel -64bit.

I experience exactly the same behaviour from my T61.
The previous kernel 2.6.32.23 works fine.
