disabling acpi has no effect, and this bug is still present in the final
release version of edgy there are a lot of reports of people having this
issue on the forum has a fix ever been found yet?

yes the screen went blank right after it printed that message, I'll try
disabling acpi and see what it does when i enter "shutdown -r now"

related to upstart

i did that and it starts shutting down the services, then the only line i could
catch before the screen went blank and it froze was

Ok, interesting.
Could you boot without "quiet" or "splash" on the kernel command line,
but with "--debug"
And then from the console (not X) run shutdown -r now ...
if you can type the last 5 lines on the screen at the point it hangs,
that would be very useful

yes i was able to complete the installation of edgy knot 3, it still
hangs when using "shutdown -r now" and "shutdown -h now" shuts the
system shuts down fine, for some reason it only hangs when rebooting.

If you have it installed on the hard disk is this able to restart?
Do the commands "shutdown -r now" or "shutdown -h now" work?
Note that the blank screen at the end of the edgy live cd is normal, and
