I am closing this bug report since there was no reply for a long time
and the i810 driver is deprecated and replaced through the new Intel
driver. Feel free to open it again if the issue still happens with Gutsy
and the -intel driver.

Could you please recheck this issue with Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 Live CD? The
i810 driver is obsolete and replaced with the new Intel driver.
Maybe it would help to add INTEL_BATCH=1 to the file /etc/environment (Bug
#195843). Btw. glxgears is not a real benchmark. You could test it with

Could you try Feisty Herd5 (or a daily snapshot) if the performance has
been fixed.

I've installed the new i810 driver 1.7.2 from debian, compiling the package
from source.
There are no GART errors anymore, my mtrr is fixed, but still the glxgears
framerate is less than with 1.4.1.
$ cat /proc/mtrr
reg00: base=0x ( 0MB), size=1024MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0
I have made a howto, which installs the newest driver from intel. It
solves the bugs. But I still gets the glxgears fault though.

With my i845, I lost direct rendering after upgrading to Edgy. My
desktop resolution is 1280x1024, but I was able to solve my problem by
removing "1600x1200" from the resolution lines in my xorg.conf. It seems
possible that if it can't get direct rendering in the highest
resolution, it won't try in
The /proc/mtrr is with dapper+beryl repositories packages+aiglx. Using edgy I
have this output, like terrax:
$ cat /proc/mtrr
reg00: base=0x ( 0MB), size=1024MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0xf3f80 (62456MB), size= 8MB: uncachable, count=1
reg02: base=0xfeda (4077MB), size
I get the same info, with cat /proc/mtrr with both drivers. So that
isn't the problem with mine I think.
reg00: base=0x ( 0MB), size= 512MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0x2000 ( 512MB), size= 256MB: write-back, count=1
reg02: base=0x2f80 ( 760MB), size= 8MB: uncachable, cou
There il also a strange mtrr with 1.6.5 driver:
$ cat /proc/mtrr
reg00: base=0x ( 0MB), size=1024MB: write-back, count=1
reg01: base=0xf3f80 (62456MB), size= 8MB: uncachable, count=1
reg02: base=0xfeda (4077MB), size= 128KB: uncachable, count=1
There is no video memory register
Got the same problem as Emilio, but just in Dapper with the
i810(1:1.6.5-0ubuntu1) driver.
I get same errors in the Xorg.0.log
I got a Dell 630 GMA, with this gfxcard "VGA compatible controller:

I have also this problem with 945 gm (hp nx7400) using dapper with beryl
repositories (1.6.5) and using edgy (xorg 7.1 i810 1.6.5).
With 1.4.1 I have ~1700fps with glxgears, with 1.6.5 ~700 fps like you.
This should to be fixed prior edgy release
I noticed errors in my xorg log with 1.6.5 dri

Got the same problem, with the xserver-xorg-driver-i810 in dapper. Not
the original version (1:1.4.1.3-0ubuntu6), but when I install the
(1:1.6.5-0ubuntu1) from beryl repositories, I get the same problems.
But I have to install the newest driver, to getting aiglx working

I am still at a loss. I monitored the cpu utilization On dapper vs edgy when
using glxgears. I have a Centrino Duo 2300. When running dapper live cd, the
cpu (only one is detected by default) goes to 100% as I would suspect it.
When running edgy, the cpus (it detects both by default), are running
Hi Daniel,
I used glxgears -printfps to determine the fps. I noticed that TUX and
googleearth are slow compared to dapper. As I understand it, I cannot
turn off composite.
Thanks

How are you gauging fps?
The "error" you cite for Edgy is in fact a warning and not an error. Try
disabling the composite extension.
