You are right.
I just created a new user, and it worked as expected: evince opened a embedded
pdf inside firefox window.
I use a lot of addons and because of that, keep reusing my $HOME/ (and
.mozilla) directory.
Upon further investigation, I found out that some addon (or myself, a long time
I am unable to reproduce this. The download directory for firefox is
~/Downloads on my system and used to be ~/Desktop in earlier releases.
Can you try this with a new user and report back if you are still having
the problem?
