Sorry MPT. You’re making up Canonical Design’s own private rationale
downstream that should be made upstream in Gnome, IMO.
The global menu is cool. But to haphazardly change around how the basic
elements in Gnome feel is not really respectful.
If you implement the appmenu then you should make it
The current positioning of icons is deliberate; it makes clearer which
checkmark items or radio items are checked (by removing clutter from
that column), and it allows future checkmark or radio items to also have
icons if appropriate.
