Well as I understand it there was a conflct with a bank ID program : Nexus.
After uninstalling and reinstalling this bank ID programme the problem was
solved. I found this solution on the Swedish Ubuntu Web Site:

I created a second profile to check if this would help. And in fact Firefox
starts but I get a window with the message:
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely

Deleting secmod.db did the trick until i had surfed a wihle closed firefox and
shut down the netbook. But with a new start the secmod.db file was there again
and I just wonder if I have to deleted it every time before I want to use
Firefox...

It worked until I close Firefox and when restarting it the same problem
came up again. But deleting secmod.db did the trick.

By moving the profile according to Nomax' instruction it worked. The
previous one on starting in safe mode didn't...

A couple of people seems to have had this problem and deleting secmod.db
in ~/.mozilla/firefox/ seems to solve it.

Another thing to try is to rename your profile to check if the problem comes
from something in the profile:
- move profile: mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla.bak
- start firefox.
- if it changes nothing:
- erase newly created dir: rm -rf .mozilla
- restore profile: mv ~/.mozilla.bak ~/.mozilla

Could it be a bad extension problem?
Please try running firefox with this command: "firefox -safe-mode"
(it disables extensions and themes)

Nothing happens if I try to run Firefox from the terminal and the only error
message I get is when I try to shut down my netbook: a window opens telling
that "Firefox-bin svarar inte" = doesn't answer. I have the Swedish version of
Ubuntu.
