The IP addresses have now disappeared from /etc/printcap. I'm attaching
an email reply from one of our sysadmins about why this might have
happened. I hope it will be helpful if the problem crops up elsewhere,

I just noticed that the IP address being attached is that of the BrowsePoll
system (cups.research.att.com, in this case), not that of the printer itself.
So all the printers are being tagged with the same IP address. This is not the
