Micah,
I have reinstalled Dapper Drake and re-tested with a couple of different
kernels and a couple of different DVDs, but cannot reproduce the problem.
It looks like either:
a) the DVDs I had, which read okay on the 233MHz Pentium box but not
on my Vaio were in some way corrupt; or

I found the grub docs, as per bug #51564.
I'll look to see if it looks like I can get grub to do what I want.
