gnome-cups-manager has been removed since Ubuntu 8.10 and has been replaced by
system-config-printer, moving to system-config-printer.
Since this is an upstream wishlist bug report it should probably be forwarded
upstream.

won't be done anytime soon. Patches appreciated, of course ;)

Thanks for your bug. Reassigning to gnome-cups-manager. That would
probably be not trivial to do and we have lot of others issues to work
on before so I don't think it'll be worked by the desktop or printing
teams soon. You are welcome to work on that feature if you want though

If you could put the printer icon directly on the desktop, it would
certainly be very nice with this feature in my opinion.
