I believe I am experiencing this as well. Since upgrading to Maverick,
I'm getting crackling on the speakers that seems to increase when CPU
usage is occurring. It is extremely irritating!
Intel HDA. I can can provide output from any commands if you request to

But i killed Pulseaudio and when i play directly via alsa the problem is even
worse.
So apparently no pulseaudio but alsa problem.
