The similar problem exists in Hardy, buy I'm not sure if it's the same.

I had two ugly problems. ONe, the mouse pointer flickered; I made a change in
the xorg.conf file because this was related to my nvidia card. I turned off
Hardware mouse.
For me, when the gksu application requests a password, the screen dims, and
right at the end of that, the whole screen flashe
FYI, I'm working on code that makes a lot more sense for fading when
gksu is running under a composited environment. That means we'll have a
much better experience with compiz/composited-metacity in the near
future.
