i have kubuntu 10.10 with alc888 on my acer 6930G...sometimes i have
very low level of sound...this problem fixed when i reboot my pc...this
myabe depends on IRQ busy by Nvidia MCP77/78 HDMI

The HDMI thing didn't work for me. Tried running maverick with lucid
kernel and then the sound works, seems to be a kernel problem.

My sound works with lucid, but not karmic. My motherboard is Asus M4N78
Pro. Found this when googling for the problem:

So this is a "feature", when using motherboard with an HDMI output.
