I think this may have something to do with the upgrade to 10.04. I
completely reinstalled the OS after I received mine, the sound worked
fine in 9.10, but not in 10.04 reinstall. What I do remember is that the
9.10 had two hardware drivers installed under the "hardware drivers" in
the "system" menu
I am also affected by this bug. I'm also using a Dell Latitude 21110
with Lucid and I'm having the described problems.
Are there any additional information that I can provide to help the
investigation and fixing?

Note that this bug no longer affects me since I am returning the 2110 to
Dell. Not only don't the headphones work, but when I type in text, at
random intervals the text cursor jumps and inserts semi-random text, so
the machine isn't even good enough for taking notes.
Backstory: I ordered the machi
Do you think it could be due to the problem described here (and for which there
appears to be a fix?):

I read the HdaIntelSoundHowto & added a line at the end of
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
options snd-hda-intel
where for I tried every Dell-specific option listed, but none
solved the problem.
I ran the alsa-info.sh script and have attached the results in the hope
that they may prove
