They are included in 2.8.3-5 of Debian, as soon as Ubuntu sync it should
be available.
They are not shipped in all the architectures though (only i386 and
amd64), in some of the architectures in Debian it takes more than one
day to compile...

Upon further exploration, it appears this bug does NOT exist for i386. I
was testing with amd64. The following Debian bug explains this problem
in more detail, including exactly which architectures are affected:
