This is not invalid. Upgrading from 8.04 to 10.04, I received the same
problem. As far as I am aware, I never used the keyring under 8.04.
Thus, I do not have any passwords in my keyring that I care about, and
can use the destructive fix listed here. However, it is worth noting
that I did not fo

this is not a bug of empathy apparently it sounds like you forgot your
password for the keyring. you can reset it by
$ rm ~/.gnome2/keyrings/default.keyring
and then reboot.
