Sujet: [Bug 581302] Re: gdm crash on boot bu
it seems to me all of these bugs have something in common:
532436 - failure possibly related to nvidia
573455 - i marked this as a duplicate of 532436
581302 - similar to 532436, but not connected to nvidia
498315 - this report proposes a connection to ureadahead
587607 - probably a duplicate
Several users are having similar troubles, but thought it had to do with
the nvidia driver: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdm/+bug/532436
I think these bugs may be the same problem and it has nothing to do with
the driver at all.
I get the impression that init is not giving gdm the proper permission
initctl status gdm gives : gdm stop/waiting . I've also attached the
file /etc/init/gdm.conf
very rarely the computer init is ok, most of the time it ends on command
line mode asking login and password, then back to command line (startx
needed, and then again password to unlock when in gnome). I s
gdm needs to have root permissions to start and is usually started by
Upstart. Could you give us the output of the following command?
initctl status gdm
And could you also check if /etc/init/gdm.conf exists? If not, then try
reinstalling the gdm package.
