For the record, Intrepid's Jockey supports printer driver download from
openprinting.org now, so maybe you are lucky and openprinting has a
driver for you? Also, it might be worth trying out newer Ubuntu
releases.

Is there a way of repackaging Canon's RPMs and placing them in
commercial/restricted repo?
I've written a tutorial about getting LBP-1120 to work with ubuntu [1],
and a lot of people are visiting it every day. (the essence is to
convert RPMs to DEBs with alien and replace service scripts)

Canons webpage anyway, but I'm not sure what they contain.
Anyway, either Canon's capt or the homebrew capt-driver should be added
to Ubuntu!
