Nope, the installer is a bit diffferent from the resulting installed
version...so its not that predictable.
Note that both the LiveCD and Wubi should result in identical installed system.

I have the same problem running off the CD which is solved from just
entering 'exit' where the prompt-less cursor seems to hang but doesn't.
Does it behave the same when installed? Please tell me before I decide
to try Wubi, thank you.

In the hidden files in your directory are for instance your mailbox and your

What are "dotfiles" ?. However, i have already moved all my personnal files on

Hi,
At the moment ran out of options for your problem but I've seen other
solutions from other people which might work.
When you tried several solutions from different people an nothing works out it
might be a good idea to do a fresh install indeed.
In a lot of circumstances a fresh install of
So,
i have added 'blacklist vga16fb' manually (sudo gedit...don't be sorry for your
'bad' command !) in blacklist-framebuffer.conf.

BUT shutdown is still hanging (testing twice) ! Bad luck for me !
Now, i don't know what
o, it might be possible that the above command wil not quite work (access

this should work instead:

yes, blacklisting indeed :-)
For me, the following blacklisting worked like a charm:
sudo echo "blacklist vga16fb" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-
framebuffer.conf
after rebooting, the result of "lsmod |grep fb" would no longer list
"vga16fb".

Hi Denis,
Yes, I'm using grub2. It's a bit more complex than grub-legacy.
not really an improvement unless you like the possibility to add a background
picture.
At the moment I don't know what to test either but maybe you can check
something:
Do you have a framebuffer module running ?

Hello thom,
i just buy a new desktop HP p6514 with the graphical card : ATI radeon HD5450.
i install ubuntu 10.04.1 64 bits, dual boot with W7.
There is no problem with shutdown on this desktop (all updates too). Grub is

yes, confirmed, bug is still remaining.
system hangs on shutdown
system hangs on switch from X to tty1 to tty6
looks like a graphic/kernel issue.
i will try to do a text mode only session and see if the bug disappears.

I can confirm this bug on a Thinkpad T42p UXGA with AR5213A WiFi card.

i could solve my poweroff failure at shutdown
(see message above with listings of dmsg, lspci, etc.)
i used as the only kernel-boot-option:
acpi=oldboot
and the shutdown with poweroff did work like in older kernel versions
again.
