Jan, I've checked the params of ipw2200 and none allows to override the
geography domain.
As this does not appear to be a bug report, I'm converting it to a
question in the support tracker with the hope that someone can help you
there.

Thank you for the hint. I know about the flashing the eeprom. I know
that I can *definitely kill my wifi*. That's the reason why I didn't
flash it yet. How Windows can access 13 channels without flashing wifi?
I'm looking forward for some modprobe parameter to override default
regioncode of eeprom
Jan, you need to change the country code in your card's eeprom to do
this. There's not a lot Ubuntu can do (and I don't know how windows does
it if it even does)
A way to go is to use ethtool to dump the eeprom, edit it and set the region
you want, then reload it.
But do that at your own risk b
Sorry about my not responding. I have only one device with this WiFi
card in production use so I can't install beta yet but I'm trying it
using LiveCD (8.10 Beta). Unfortunately dmesg still says:

The Hardy Heron Alpha series was recently released which contains an
updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy
Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ .
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you
can, please verify
