For some reason, it's looking in / for texmf.cnf, along with a bunch
of other things. I think it's got one of its prefixes wrong.

What I see from the strace log is that Latex keeps searching all my home
directory structure looking for texmf directory... I don't see that the
/etc/texmf/texmf.cnf is read at any time.
