I found out, that the volume can be adjusted from alsamixer. The speaker volume
here was very low, around 10.
Now everything works ok, but this is only temporal fix.

Removing indicator-sound does not help for me, too. If it is a alsa driver
issue, why it only affects USB?
My sound chip works perfectly, though.

I suspect this is invalid DB data in the alsa drivers in the newer
kernel. To confirm please remove indicator-sound (this can be installed
again easily afterwards).
sudo apt-get remove indicator-sound
