What do you think about replacing the current thumbnail frame with this
one ?!
I think it looks better and the frame is more practical with a sharpen
edge and a tiny shadow.

This is just an idea with no clue if it is possible: Aren’t there any
parameters that can be set on thumbnail creation to say:
»No, for this icon please show no frame.«?

Thanks for your advice but I already knew that workaround.
In retrospect, this seems to be hard to fix as it is impossible to know
the difference between folder icon replacements and other thumbnails. At
least I guess so.

I would just like to mention that it is possible to "disable" the ugly
borders by removing/renaming the following file:
"/usr/share/pixmaps/nautilus/thumbnail_frame.png".
