Well I've been fighting this for a month now, and the patch in post #2 fixed
it for me.
I had done a fresh install from a CD followed by whatever upgrades were
suggested by Synaptic.
I don't know what else the support people need. But then if i did, I'd probably
be looking to join the team.

Being the original poster, I agree to let this bug report rest in peace
("invalid"). The error happened on my production notebook and I
couldn't afford to loose more time, so I proceeded with a fresh install
of 10.04. Therefor I am not able to provide any further information
about the original pro

Basically, if akonadi doesn't start, KAddressBook won't work. We have a wide
range of bugs that can cause akonadi to not start, and your issue is most
likely not this bug. (It was marked invalid for a reason.)
Please file separate reports with the output of an akonadi self test
against akon

Not sure why this was changed to invalid. Akonadi seems to be dorked up
upon install of Kubuntu 10.04. Marking it invalid doesn't make it go
away, it just discourages users.

is the fix for now:
The problem is related to the content of the ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc.
The file is ceated with "Options" line like :
Options="UNIX_SOCKET=/home/dc/.loca
Well let me sum this up real quick
a) akonadi is mandatory in >= Kubuntu 10.04/KDE 4.4 for addressbooks
b) without seeing the report it is difficult what innodb error you had, but you
sure didn't fix it, you just rendered akonadi broken at a much higher level
than innodb
c) your akonadi is no
