Works here on ubuntu lucid using gwibber and gwibber-service from
maverick. Just those 2 packages installed with gdebi. Now it makes sense
to use it :)
Out of curiosity: was the problem "upstream" or ubuntu related?

I can not verify this for myself since the accounts dialog will no
longer allow me to finalize the adding of a facebook account (no Add or
Cancel buttons showing after the authorization process). Off to look for
my new problem in launchpad.
