Peng Huang has investigated the problem, and it has turned out to not
originate in ibus-qt. In fact, it also affects SCIM's Qt module, which
is part of an entirely different software package.

As I said in my (duplicate) bug report, the delay seems to occur when a
string has been entered and is about to be displayed as a compose
string. So while IBUS itself is reasonably fast, the user cannot see
what they are typing in real time.
