This time I noticed looking at the system monitor applet that the
scrolling that causes the stuttering (not all scrolling causes
stuttering, e.g. not all tabs in Chromium are causing it, nor Eclipse),
the "system" color goes way up, while in situations where scrolling does
not
I'm having a similar problem under Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit.
Sometimes (but not always), scrolling in Chrome/Gedit/almost anything
while playing sound on Rhythmbox/Spotify under Wine/ Flash
videos/whatever, results in considerable sound stutter.
On a related note, sometime videos playing on Totem have

Can we have some more information about your system?
RAM
number of programs running
desktop effects running?
It might be that the computer is running low on ram and rhythmbox stutters when
the computer shifts priority processing to your scroll event.
