Instead of removing NM you can make it recognize connections in /etc/network/interfaces. Go to /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system- settings.conf and change [ifupdown] managed=false to [ifupdown] managed=true Then reboot. NM will automatically create uneditable connections for those in /etc/network/i
