This affects me too, I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 when it was released,
and empathy / telepathy-butterfly has been behaving as such since then.
This machine is rarely rebooted, never goes into suspend or hibernation,
and I don't use msn from anywhere else, so it might have something to do
with be
