Install GCalDaemon, from this link here:

Probably not. The only settings I added were the eMail account.
There were no other settings suggested. I tried the other options
mentioned by you and others, but there is not matching configs in the
settings...
Can you advise, please what settings go where.

Lastly, Evolution version 2.28.3 (the version that is packaged with
Lucid) has default settings for importing and two way sync with Google
Accounts.

Please follow the instructions from Google regarding CalDAV support. The
instructions specify for iPhones, but can be applied to Evolution.

Could you please add information about your settings regarding the calendar
setup?
It is possible you simply do not have the correct settings configured.
i.e. How you have the account tied to your Gmail account?
