Well, if the bug is fixed in the latest Ubuntu version - and as I
understand it, it is fixed in Maverick - that should be enough for
marking as Fix Released, right? Or are you looking for an SRU for Lucid?

I added:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
to the end of:
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
this also worked, my thanks to web1star

Installing the linux-alsa-driver-modules solved the issue. The speakers
work well.
