@Nate Wiebe : That was considered too , but nothing in the "Applications" menu
currently uses purple.
Then again , surely something to be considered for Maverick . Currently
everything is wrapped up for Lucid.
Do file bugs for any other ideas you have too.

I can see not changing the actual video icon to purple, but I think that
the icon for the "Sound & Video" menu entry (2nd in the attached file),
should be changed to purple so the menu would be more consistent.

The reason the folder-video icon and folder-image was given purple , is to keep
some consistency for the folder icons, the user desktop turned purple and it
was the lone purple icon there in a sea of orange.
Purple is being used mainly for the desktop[computer / monitor] icons.
