Yeah, I can probably take care of this.
I think I'd clean the patch up a little by:
a) minimize the lines touched by:
[ -z "$SYSCONFDIR" ] && SYSCONFDIR="/etc"
b) leave interpreter as /bin/sh and fix bashims
